Kuk Sool in the UFC [Video]

This video is pretty Old School but it is the only instance I have ever heard or seen of Kuk Sool in the UFC. If you know of another instance feel free to leave a comment and point it out.

I have heard a couple different stories about this video. The one I have heard a couple times is that Gary Goodridge was training up in Canada for the UFC at a Canadian Kuk Sool School (may be gone now). There is more to the story but I won’t gossip more than that, but if you know the real story leave a comment.

I have studied Kuk Sool for 12 years. I contacted Goodridge via Facebook and asked him who his instructor was for Kuk Sool. He replyed “Lol. I kinda did it on my own.” Being a student of Kuk Sool I am well aware of the rules. One being no associating Kuk Sool Won with cage fight organizations. Also every black belt promotion is approved by Grandmaster In Huk Sa. It is possible that the person who replied to me was not Goodridge, but I know no current student in good standing would be allowed to compete in a cage match and associate the trademarked Kuk Sool Won system.

Gary Goodridge did train at Kuk Sool Won in Canada. Unfortunately Kuk Sool Won was not trademarked in Canada. (I do not know if that has been rectified or not.) He ended up training with a master who was not part of the WKSA. My understanding is that he did train at the school. Hearsay, from students training at the time, was that most of his training was on his own using the dojang for space and to be associated with a style.
